Phase 1 improvements to Chatfield included double left turn lanes in the east and westbound directions, two through lanes, and right turn lanes in all directions. Raised concrete medians, intersection islands and a new sidewalk on the south side of Chatfield were also added. These features were intended to significantly increase vehicle capacity at this busy intersection so drivers spend less time waiting. The safety of both drivers and pedestrians was improved by the medians and sidewalks.
The purpose of this project was to raise West Chatfield Avenue to Jefferson County’s arterial road standard in order to increase the roadway capacity and improve safety. The project consisted of roadway improvements, concrete flatwork, and center medians that included patterned concrete.
Additionally CEI constructed four pedestrian islands at the Chatfield/Wadsworth intersection. The asphalt work included both full depth asphalt and mill and overlay sections. The drainage work included new inlets (in the median and at the curb flow line), storm sewer, sidewalk chases and a swale along the north side of West Chatfield Avenue in the existing Foothills Park & Recreation property. CEI also constructed an 8 foot privacy fence along the existing property line.
